About Us
Param Guptavatara Bhagavan Sri Sri Nityagopal Dev established Mahanirban Math at Manoharpukur Road No. 29 on 5th Ashada 1301 (Eng 18th June 1894 AD), whose present address is 113, Rashbehari Avenue, Calcutta - 29. There is a pond among the trees of mango, bel, palm, coconut etc. Sri Sri Tagore Mutt then the entire area was covered with forest. This monastery was the hideout of independent forces.
There will be small kuthuri on either side of the main path of the mutt and nahabats on the path - the above instructions were given by Tagore himself. Thakur Thakur also laid out the outline of what would be his Sevapujo or Vatrik Mahotsavadi Shakti by ordering the enshrinement of Tagore's body in copper grains on the ground above the main temple and the construction of three special altars.

Asadha on the occasion of our and Sri Sri Tagore's sannyas-initiation on His Mam Sri Sri Gurupurna Tithi and on the Chaitra Utsava Basanti Ashtami Tithi on the occasion of auspicious appearance Mahavenirvana Mam Udaya Mahamahotsav.
Sri Sri Tagore's final message to his disciples in his will (note) is, "You will have mutual respect. There will be respect for all religions. The orphans, the fire of Atura will help them. If anyone is in danger, he should be protected from danger."
Mahanirban Mutt helps the needy by giving advice camps, distributing winter clothes to individuals, providing wheelchairs to divyas, providing medical assistance to Kariongas, providing design items to the poor, providing medical directorate for Gaurabasagar or Chitar Mela. With the grace and blessings of Lord Sri Sri Nityagopal Dev, countless devotees continue this service even after the vows and sadhanas of the monastery.
